MAGRIETHA & CHRISTO BOTHMA
If it wasn't for my parents, I would definitely not have been where I am today. Aside from the support they gave me, through the years of struggling with my health, they have also been the two people who poured the most into my running dreams and allowed me to chase these crazy goals - doing everything possible to make it a reality. My dad has been a key part of my athletic development - taking me to races from a young age and biking alongside me while I run over the years.
Craig Fry has been playing a big role in setting me up for success. He takes care of the administrative side of my running career, allowing me to focus on putting hard work and focus into my training and racing. He has transcended his role as manager, mentoring me through the various lows and highs I encounter while chasing my marathon dreams!
BLOG & MEDIA EDITOR
FRANCOIS, MY BROTHER
I am thankful to have someone with the ability to write, who helps me put out blog posts and writing that is not only grammatically correct, but has life pulsing through the words and thoughts. Hopefully one day he will be the one writing my book!
(In case you're wondering, yes, I also edited this entry. Only the language, though, I promise...)
Training alone can be hard. Melly Kelly, an elite marathon and ultra-marathon runner from Kenya will soon arrive to help me stay on pace during my long, grueling marathon workouts and long runs leading up to my next big event. Melly has placed second at the prestigious Two Oceans Ultra-marathon, third at the Mandela Marathon, won the Township Marathon twice, and won both the Gauteng Marathon and the Mosslebay Marathon.
MY TRAINING PARTNER
JANA DU PREEZ
I am thankful to have an awesome gym training partner who always helps me to stay motivated through strength workouts and repetitive rehab sessions. Jana Du Preez has the ability to make me laugh on any given day - no matter how hard the training gets. Training is always fun with her around.
It is impossible to be a full-time professional athlete without having financial support. I am thankful for the sponsorship Propertysmith has provided me with, allowing me to live my dream, call running my career, and fully commit myself to the process required to reach the top.
Progast® is a natural product range of pharmaceutical-grade quality. Using Progast has truly helped me manage the GI symptoms associated with my Celiac Disease and IBS. I use their probiotic and Progast drops on a daily basis to help manage symptoms such as cramping, stomach pain & discomfort, diarrhea, and bloating.
BIOKINETICS & SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPIST
Tony’s primary area of focus is Orthopaedic rehabilitation through strengthening (mainly backs and knees). I see Tony on a weekly basis for a sports massage. He helps me stay flexible and mobile during marathon training.
Andrew Seymour is a physiotherapist in Sea Point, Cape Town. I see Andrew for acupuncture once a week, which I believe has helped me stay injury-free through the hard training periods.
DR. HILDA LANDMANN
Dr Landman has been essential to keeping me healthy over the last year. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and approaches every health struggle I face with so much attention and thought. She always goes the extra mile to help me stay healthy and be able to continue doing what I love. I am beyond thankful for her kindness and support.
